Chat Room Rules

Salvation's Corner - Guidelines For All
No Swearing or chatting about lewd or obscene content. Words generally
accepted as 'bad words' are impermissible, as is the masking of certain letters which leave the implied word easy to determine. If it's ok in a G
rated movie, it's OK in here. Comic-book style cursing is cautiously allowed ( i.e. #$*&@ in place of a curse word, done in such a way that
the actual word is incomprehensible ). Any manor of chat that a Fellowshiphall Operator or IRC Guardian considers inappropriate for Christian chat is not allowed, including secular music discussions. We want to keep this place safe for
all ages.
No advertising other fellowshiphalls or chat servers or popping in and out to display any will result in an immediate ban. Fellowshiphall owners set their own rules regarding web site advertising.
Debates and Polls are strictly prohibited. This sanctuary is not a medium to facilitate debates or arguments about religion, denominational doctrines,
dogma, philosophy, or issues, These things can be discussed, but if the discussion becomes in any way inflammatory to either party involved, or
discouraging towards other saints, all involved parties will be escorted
out of the sanctuary.
No topic is 'taboo' as long as it is approached in a mature, biblical manner. We won't turn away anyone who wants help. Therefore, discussions
on Christianity's stance towards issues such as drug use or sexuality will not be squelched unless these discussions make other guests
uncomfortable, in which case the person who wants to discuss one of these
topics will be invited to join a private chat or another fellowshiphall in which he or she can more freely discuss these matters.
You are not God, Jesus, or Satan; so it'd be great if you wouldn't use those nicks. Some people might get the wrong idea. Flirtatious/sexual nicks such as hot, babe, chick, sexy, etc. are not allowed. The swearing rule
applies to nicks, too. People who obviously and knowingly impersonate Fellowshiphall Operators or IRC Guardians or other Saints will be dealt with.
One at a time, please. Clones are highly discouraged because of the sheer volume of people that connect to this sanctuary. If you're connected more
than once, you're taking up a spot that someone else could be using to chat. Don't worry, if you were disconnected and your previous connection
hasn't timed out, you won't get kicked; we can usually tell what has happened anyway.
Do not idle in any given fellowshiphall for more than 2 hours if you do so this can cause removal from that fellowshiphall or from this sanctuary.
*Note: If you are a Fellowshiphall Operator or an IRC Guardian please do not idle. If you are going to be away from the computer for a long period of time (Dinner, Going to town, Getting the mail, Being in Private Chat, or in another Fellowshiphall, etc.) please deop yourself to keep the chatters from getting your attention and getting upset when you do not answer their inqueries.
We have plenty of bots, and they do quite well. Adding one more would just be really confusing. If you've got a bot you're just dying to play
with, Salvation's Corner usually has a few Fellowshiphalls open, If your bot does bible functions, pick one.
Do not flood. (Flooding is more than 5 lines at one time) It's usually hard enough to keep up with a normal conversation. Throwing in line after line of the same thing can get old
really fast. The Guardians on our Sanctuary will, more than likely, kick you if you do it over excessively. Please keep the flooding to a minimum.
All Caps. If you see somebody using ALL CAPS, if they appear to be a new comer, kindly be patient with them for SEVERAL MINUTES. Caps are
considered yelling. If you think they are doing this on purpose, warn them, kick, and then ban them.
Do not give out any personal info (Phone Numbers, E-mail Addresses, Home Addresses, etc) in open chat - Reserve all that for Private Chat.
English only in the Fellowshiphalls. Please go to an un-used Fellowshiphall or Private Chat for chatting in other languages.
Remember that Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Do not falsely accuse others, start arguments, name call, direct personal insults, or act in any manner other than Christ Himself would.
To all the visiting people from other servers who op or ircop we ask you to turn off ALL auto op functions that your chatting script uses. The IRC Guardians on this Sanctuary can see when your chat script uses this function and it sends it to the IRC Guardians through a Global Network Message as shown in the example below:
[18:00] -irc.SalvationsCorner.net- Saint Entering -- Saint Entering Through Port 6667: Pilot (~Pilot@isp.net)
[18:00] -irc.SalvationsCorner.net- *** Network-Global -- Failed OPER attempt by:
Pilot (~Pilot@isp.net) using UID Pilot [---]
[18:00] -irc.SalvationsCorner.net- *** Failed-Global -- Failed OPER attempt by:
Pilot (~Pilot@isp.net) using UID Pilot [password]
As you can see this can cause much confusion to the IRC Guardians. This shows them that this Saint is either not on staff here or a Saint is trying to gain Guardian status but is failing because of the wrong password being submitted.
If the Saint does not comply with this guideline one final warning will be given. If the Saint continues to not comply with this guideline a Sanctuary Ban will be issued for 30 days. Once the 30 days has been reached the 30 day Sanctuary Ban will be lifted and the Saint will be given another opportunity to comply with this guideline. If the Saint does not comply with this guideline a permanent Sanctuary Ban will be issued.
*Note: Notice where it says - Pilot (~Pilot@isp.net) using UID Pilot [password]- This shows us the REAL password that your auto ops script is trying to submit to the Sanctuary. This could be a real security risk not only to Salvation's Corner but also to the Saint using this auto script function.
Salvation's Corner enforces a ZERO Tolerance Policy. Respect the Fellowshiphall Operators and IRC Guardians. They are in authority over you and are here to help you. They take time out from their busy schedules to volunteer to
help keep order on this sanctuary. If anyone is caught disrespecting any Fellowshiphall Operator or IRC Guardian they will be immediately kicked and banned from this sanctuary
until further notice.
The Fellowshiphall Operators and IRC Guardians word is final. If you disagree ask to discuss it in Private Chat or go to http://www.salvationscorner.net/contact.html and send an e-mail to staff@salvationscorner.net for further information.
*Note: All Fellowshiphall Owners requesting a Fellowshiphall and those Fellowshiphalls residing on Salvation's Corner must comply with Sanctuary policies. If any Fellowshiphall that is not following Sanctuary Policies will be immediatly revoked.
Failure to comply with any of these rules can result in a lengthy ban from Salvation's Corner and possibly from the entire IRC Network.
Salvation's Corner - Fellowshiphall Operator & IRC Guardian Guidelines
Role
The purpose of this section is to explain basic concepts in how to deal with saints. An explanation of the sanctuary commands will not be included here, as it is expected that you already have a working knowledge of those commands. Instead, some guidelines will be illustrated which outline how to make the saints comfortable in your dealings with them, and which will explain some people skills that will make your own experience as an IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator more enjoyable.
When Should I Act?
When NOT To Act:
If you notice a saint who is creating a disturbance, or if another saint comes to you about someone creating a disturbance, the first thing you should do is ask yourself if what the saint is doing is against the Fellowshiphall Guidelines or against the Sanctuary Guidelines. Many saints will go to the IRC Guardians to fix a problem that is not in your jurisdiction. In this case, it is best to direct the upset saint to a Fellowshiphall Operator, or to notify a Fellowshiphall Operator yourself that someone has come to you about one of their saints and ask the Fellowshiphall Operator to handle the problem. If no Fellowshiphall Operator is logged on for the Fellowshiphall that is in question, tell the upset saint to e-mail the Fellowshiphall Owners first or leave them a short note via MemoServ or lastley use his or her /ignore feature on the saint that is causing the disturbances.
*Note: In an instance where a saint has not broken a Sanctuary Guideline, it is not your job to correct the saint. The Fellowshiphall Operators are in charge of their own Fellowshiphalls, so you should allow them to handle the problem first or foremost, unless the problem gets out of control then and only then can an IRC Guardian step in if no one else is present. Once an IRC Guardian has resolved the situation the IRC Guardian must e-mail the Fellowshiphall Owners to let them know about the problem and how it was handled.
When To Act:
In Most instances, you will probably not need to use any IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator commands, as most problems fall into the "When NOT To Act" category. Instances where you should step in include:
1. When a saint is soliciting porn
2. When a saint is soliciting cyber-sex
3. When a saint is soliciting warez
4. When a saint is cloning (Note: a saint is allowed up to TWO connections on Salvation's Corner, so a person who is logged on twice has not broken a Sanctuary Guideline. This is not cloning.)
5. When a saint is making threats to another saint.
6. When a saint cusses out other saints, IRC Guardians, and Fellowshiphall Operators.
7. When a saint plain disrespects IRC Guardians, and Fellowshiphall Operators.
*Note: private messages are the IRC Guardians domain. If a saint is sending offensive private messages to another saint, then you can step in. Saints creating disturbances in private messages are not creating problems in a public room, and this is your justification for acting.
If you find yourself in a situation where a saint is breaking one of the aforementioned Guidelines, the procedure for acting is as follows:
1. Remain very calm. This is not the place to yell at someone, or to try to scare them. Odds are you won't scare them very much and if you show signs of being upset, they will just egg you on.
2. Do not approach the saint in a public room. This looks way too much like a display of power, and most people feel assaulted in this case, and their first inclination is to be defensive.
3. Send the saint a private message, or invite him or her to a private fellowshiphall. This way, you can talk to him or her without other saints getting their say in on what you're doing. Some saints feel they should be able to tell you what to do. A good way to avoid this situation is to prevent it by talking to the saint in question privately.
4. In the private message INFORM the saint that he or she is breaking a guideline. Some saints do not know (honestly) that they are breaking a guideline. So, if you approach them nicely and inform them that they are doing something wrong, they will apologize and stop doing it (in most cases).
An example of this could be: Hi JoeSaint. I just wanted to let you know that at Salvation's Corner we do not allow people to have more than two connections, otherwise it is considered cloning. Can you please limit your connections to two or one.
If JoeSaint complies, then that it is the end of the story.
When To /Kick & /Kill
Using the scenario explained above, let us suppose that JoeSaint tells you where to stick it you stupid Nazi IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator. The reason JoeSaint should be /kicked or /killed is not because he called you a stupid Nazi IRC Guardian (although this is grounds for removal this displays disrespect but we will give him or her the benefit of the doubt, this is left up to the discretion of the IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator), but because he was cloning.
In This Instance You Should:
1. Explain to JoeSaint that he has been warned and that he will now be /kicked or /killed. Also tell JoeSaint that this is his last warning, and that the next time he will be /kicked and/or /akilled.
2. In the /kick and/or /kill be sure to put a reason (this will save you from having to answer to other saints about what you've done and allow JoeSaint to know that he was /kicked and/or /killed because he was cloning and not because he has a big mouth.(JoeSaint could of been /kicked and/or /killed for his mouth but again we aren't out to be bullies we are here to minister)Your reason should be something along the lines of: JoeSaint you are not allowed more than 2 connections to Salvation's Corner.
*Note: Reasons are not the place to be a wise crack. This will only make it appear as though you are on a power trip, which is something saints are very paranoid of when it comes to IRC Guardians or Fellowshiphall Operators. Keep your reasons short and to the point.
When To /AKick & /AKill
1. Let us assume that JoeSaint has decided to log back on. If JoeSaint logs back on and he is complying with all the Sanctuary Guidelines, leave him alone. Do not go into a fellowshiphall he has gone into, do not private message him. This is usually seen as patronizing.
2. If JoeSaint signs back on, and then proceeds to sign on five more accounts, you should employ an /akick and/or /akill. Although he will automatically be killed by the sanctuary (as this sanctuary has clone protection) it is up to you to set the /akick and/or /akill.
*Note: A saint should be /akicked and/or /akilled only after you have done two things: First, warn him or her. Then, /kick and/or /kill him or her with a reason. Finally, an /akick and/or /akill should be used.
*Note: An /akick and/or /akill does not have to be permanent. At your descretion, you can choose to use a timed /akick and/or /akill which will lift after the period of time you set. These are most helpful when someone hasn't done something that deserves a complete /akick and/or /akill, but who is still testing your authority.
General Behavior With Saints
Keep Your Cool
This Sanctuary sends a notice out to all saints that you have opped up. Which is to say, everyone knows already that you are an IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator. There is no further need to call special attention to yourself on this matter. If you have any known enemies, they might try to bait you into saying something stupid as a way of getting your O:Line revoked. This is not their fault; this is your fault if you take the bait. You represent the Sanctuary as someone who is there to help. Keep that in mind at all times. That is your job first and foremost.
Do Not Be Trigger Happy
The commands for /kick and/or /kill and /akick and/or /akill are there to protect saints from putting up with stupid people's non-sense. Do not turn your own use of those commands into stupid non-sense. Keep in mind that most problems can be resolved by talking with someone. This includes but is not limited to: being patient, understanding, and willing to take a lot of things that you think are stupid very seriously, if only to humour a saint.
Make Sure You Can Make Informed Decisions When You Act
When someone has come to you with a complaint, investigate it. Ask for logs if available. If there are no logs, then there is no proof. This becomes problematic when the person you /akick, /akill, and /kill comes back demanding to know why he or she was /akicked, /akilled, and /killled.
Have fun
Being an IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator puts you in the unique position of having others think you hold some type of mysterious power. Don't abuse it. The reality is, being an IRC Guardian or Fellowshiphall Operator means you are good at talking and ministering to people and you are a good mediator who is capable of problem solving. Enjoy yourself and remember think as Christ would in all situations.
Remember the phrase: What Would Jesus Do?
Salvation's Corner - IRC Guardian Trainee Guidelines
Role
Your role as an IRC Guardian Trainee is to shadow the IRC Guardians who you are working with on Salvation's Corner. During your time as an IRC Guardian Trainee you will learn how to interact properly with the Saints, IRC Guardians, and other Staff members that are here. You will learn some if not ALL of the Sanctuary/Services commands that are currently in use on Salvation's Corner Internet Relay Chat Network. You will be assisting Fellowshiphall Owners with saint issues, fellowshiphall issues, nickname issues, ban issues, and the list grows. You will be assisting the IRC Guardian Staff with anything they need assistance with. Your first and foremost priority are the saints that come here daily to chat with others. Some may need some ministering, guidance, prayer, or counseling please be patient with them and help them in anyway you can. If you can not handle the situation please ask for some assistance from another IRC Guardian.
Mentor
Each IRC Guardian Trainee will be given a personal Mentor to shadow. The purpose for a Mentor is to help guide each IRC Guardian Trainee in the proper direction in dealing with issues that may arise from day to day. The sole purpose for a Mentor is to teach and demonstrate to each IRC Guardian Trainee the proper techniques to execute the sanctuary/services commands and to properly handle situations between chatters in a calm and peaceful manner. This can be a tough area because not one situation is the same. This is where you will learn people skills on how to interact with chatters. Watch how your Mentor handles each situation and make note of the out come and take mental notes so that one day when you are in that kind of a situation you will know exactly how to handle the situation and have a successful out come.
The IRC Guardian Personal Mentors will not be terminated once the IRC Guardian Trainee reaches IRC Guardianship. Personal Mentors will ALWAYS be there to assist you if the need arises. Personal Mentors will be able to answer any questions you may have. If a Personal Mentor does not have an answer to give right away they WILL provide an answer with in 24 hours.
Probation
Each IRC Guardian will be given a 90 day probation period. During this 90 day probation period each IRC Guardian Trainee's Personal Mentor will be taking notes on his/her performance, knowledge of commands, attitude towards other chatters and other staff members, how well he/she can take instructions or criticism from their personal Mentor and Staff members.
During this 90 day probation period each IRC Guardian Trainee will maintain the status of IRC Guardian Trainee and Help Guardian (%) in the #Help fellowshiphall until the 90 day probation period evaluations come out. After a comprehensive review of past IRC Guardian Trainee In Class Training, IRC Guardian Trainee Recommendations, IRC Guardian Trainee Written Test, IRC Guardian Trainee Live Test, IRC Guardian Trainee Personal Mentor Recommendations, Staff Member Recommendations, and the IRC Guardian Trainee 90 Day Evaluation can a complete evaluation be given to the IRC Guardian Trainee. This will determine where the IRC Guardian Trainee needs improvement (if any) in a given area. The IRC Guardian Trainee will remain an IRC Guardian Trainee until the individual demonstrates improvement in the area in question. Once the IRC Guardian Trainee demonstrates improvement a final evaluation will be given to determine the status of the IRC Guardian Trainee. Each IRC Guardian Trainee that receives an acceptable evaluation will then be promoted to IRC Guardian and Full Help Guardian Status (@) in the #Help Fellowshiphall.
Meetings
All monthly meetings are held the last Saturday of each month at 9:30PM EST in the #AdministratorServices Fellowshiphall. All monthly meetings are mandatory unless you provide an acceptable reason as to why you can not attend. Here are some examples of acceptable reasons: Work, Church, Prior Family Functions, Church Related Functions, Weddings, Funerals, Vacations, Birthdays, Anniversaries, and being Sick. You have 30 days to provide an e-mail stating why you can not attend the meeting.
The purpose for the monthly meetings is to share what has been taking place the month before, bring new ideas and visions to the table to discuss, discuss new ideas to implement in the ministry, and to get to know our staff a little better. These meetings are "Open Door" which means: Anything can be discussed and freely talked about with an open mind. No idea will be dismissed and no one will speak out against another individual.
This gives the staff an insight on how other staff members feel on certain areas and if there is room for improvement which there always is room for improvement.
Salvation's Corner - IRC Guardian Guidelines
Role
Your role as an IRC Guardian is to be a technical advisor on
Salvation's Corner. Your first priority are the chatters. You should be
willing to help them with any problem and questions they may have concerning
IRC. Your second priority is to oversee the IRC Sanctuary. You should
be in two fellowshiphalls at all times: #Help and #SalvationsCorner. One
role that comes with being an IRC Guardian is to help fellowshiphall guardians kick
and ban people from their fellowshiphalls.
Idle
If you are idle in a fellowshiphall, please deop yourself or leave that fellowshiphall. This does
not apply to #Help and #AdministratorServices.
Fellowshiphall Guardians
Do not OP yourself in a fellowshiphall unless it is absolutely needed.
Respect
the rights of the fellowshiphall owners to OP who they think should be
Opped.
SalvationsCorner and Services
You should be familiar with all Salvation's Corner.Net sanctuary
commands, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and other service bots as well.
*@*
Do not AKILL *@* because it bans the entire sanctuary! And then I'll
have to fix it. Even *@* somewhere.somehost.com will ban the entire
sanctuary because there is a space between *@* and somewhere.somehost.
com. Only AKILL when absolutely needed and then contact the sanctuary
owner as soon as possible.
E-Mail
Be prepared to answer e-mails sent to staff@salvationscorner.net
related to sanctuary bans and help related to chatting only.
Password Lookups ( Service Administrator Guardians Only )
If you are a
service administrator guardian, I ask that you ONLY look up passwords
when a request is made. Only provide the password to the person
requesting it if you are 100% sure the person asking for it is the
owner of that nickname.
Fellowshiphall Maintenance
If you are a service administrator guardian, you have the ability to delete
fellowshiphalls. Do this only if the fellowshiphall does not abide by the Fellowshiphall
rules and/or if the fellowshiphall has been unoccupied for more than six
months.
AKILLS
Do not release and AKILL with out discussing it with the person who
placed the AKILL. Also all AKILL releasing should be and will be
discussed with the server owner first. When placing AKILLS, in the
description, please place your nickname and the reason for placing
the AKILL.
Help
You are obligated to help out with any IRC related problem. This
includes helping people downloading, installing and configuring mIRC
or Pirch. However, you are not obligated to help people diagnose
any problems that do not pertain to IRC. You can do this if you want
to.
Services
Keep #AdministratorServices set to +AOi at all times. This
will make it so only people with O-lines ( IRC Guardians ) can join #AdministratorServices.
If any IRC Guardian who does not comply with these rules and
guidelines
will be dealt with personally by the sanctuary owner for proper
disciplinary
action.
